Russellville golfers take aim

Golf season is here, and the Russellville High School varsity boys and girls are looking forward to showing their skills on the course.

The boys’ team, led by head coach Patrick Odom, will be looking to follow in the footsteps of previous successful RHS golfers who have made it to the state tournament. This year’s group is young, with no seniors on the team. Brayden Malone and Braxton Hipps are both juniors, Will Morgan and Mason Herring are sophomores, and Parker Odom and Maddux Herring will be joining the team as eighth-graders.

Russellville’s girls will again be led by head coach Susan DeArman and her husband, volunteer assistant Cam DeArman. The RHS girls’ team will consist of all seniors: Katie Cummings, Callie Mayberry, Kaitlyn Reed and Gracie Smith.

Joining Russellville boys in Class 5A, Section 3, are Center Point, Cordova, Corner, Fairview, Hayden, Lawrence County, Leeds, Moody, St. Clair County and West Point. The section tournament is scheduled for April 25 at Cross Creek in Cullman. The sub-state tourney is planned for May 2 at Twin Bridges in Gadsden, and the state tournament will be held May 9-10 at RTJ Hampton Cove in Huntsville.

The girls’ Class 4A-5A, Section 4, consists of Russellville, Ardmore, Brooks, Central-Florence, Cordova, Corner, Curry, Deshler, Dora, East Limestone, Haleyville, Hamilton, Lawrence County, Madison Academy, Priceville, Rogers, St. John Paul II, West Limestone, Westminster Christian, West Morgan, West Point and Wilson. The girls’ sectionals are scheduled for April 25-26 at Twin Pines in Littleville. Sub-state will be held May 2-3 at Silver Lakes in Gadsden, and the state tournament is scheduled for May 9-10 at Magnolia Grove in Mobile.
