Book Lovers Study Club prepares for Spring Brunch/Fashion Show

The GFWC Book Lovers Study Club’s March meeting included the final planning of its Spring Brunch/Fashion Show with tablescape decorations. The fundraiser will be held March 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the Russellville First United Methodist Church Ministry Center.

Ten tables that seat eight people each will be decorated by club members using various themes.  Each club member will act as hostesses for her table. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased from any club member.

The fashion show will feature models wearing this year’s spring fashions from local businesses.

Door prizes will be given throughout the event.

The proceeds from this fundraiser will be used for community projects and scholarships.

The March meeting was held at Russellville First Baptist Church, with Debbie Beason and I serving as co-hostesses. Table coverings, plates and napkins of blue and yellow were used to acknowledge the war in Ukraine. Book Lovers members were updated on the GFWC Women’s Club of Ukraine and their heroic humanitarian response for Ukraine. Ukraine club women have been busy teaching first aid and doing what they can to give people hope.

GFWC Affiliate Organization UNICEF USA continues to stay at the forefront of the humanitarian response for Ukraine and is providing essential services to vulnerable children and families affected by the conflict.

Many GFWC clubs are donating to support UNICEF’s efforts and help ensure children have access to clean water, nutrition, health care, education and safe conditions.

GFWC/AFWC recognizes the month of March as Women’s History Month. In 1987 the United States formally recognized March as National Women’s History Month. International Women’s Day was celebrated March 8.  During this month, extra attention is given to women for their strong and determined efforts to make cultural, political and socio-economic achievements.

Due to inclement weather March 12, the GFWC Alabama North District meeting was rescheduled. The district meeting will be held April 2 at Russellville First Baptist Church, with GFWC Book Lovers Study Club serving as club hostess.
