    Late surge lifts PC over RB

    A late surge in the last two and a half minutes gave the Phil Campbell Bobcat girls a 46-41 win over the Red Bay Tigers.

    Red Bay jumped out to a 16-9 lead in the first quarter. Phil Campbell outscored Red Bay 14-6 in the second quarter to take a 23-22 halftime lead. Red Bay kept battling and claimed a one-point leadm 34-33, at the end of the third quarter.

    The two teams went back and forth for much of the fourth quarter, with each clinging to a one-point lead at some point. Finally, Phil Campbell’s Kenner Scott hit a jumper with 2:38 to go in the game to give the Bobcats a 41-38 lead.

    The score remained unchanged for almost two minutes.

    With 47 seconds to go in the game, Faith Cook made a layup on an assist by Madison Branch to give the Bobcats a 43-38 lead. The Bobcats went on to win 46-41.

    Branch led Phil Campbell with 22 points. Scott added nine points, Cook seven points, Macy Hardy five points, Allie Herring two points and Kaylee Motes one point.

    Kaylie Lindley and Madeline Ledbetter led Red Bay with 10 points each. Sarah Eaton and Emma McCollister scored seven points each. Jaycee Vinson added four points, Amber Mason two points and Shelby Nichols one point.

    Hatton 40, Phil Campbell 36

    A rough second quarter hurt Phil Campbell in a 40-36 loss to the Hatton Hornets.

    The Phil Campbell girls led Hatton 8-7 at the end of the first quarter. The Hornets outscored the Bobcats 9-5 in the second quarter to give Hatton a 16-13 halftime lead. Hatton maintained a 24-21 lead at the end of the third quarter, and Phil Campbell could never get over the hump in the fourth quarter, succumbing to the Hornets.

    Sulligent 40, Phil Campbell 33

    The Bobcat girls couldn’t overcome a slow start, losing to the Sulligent Blue Devils 40-33.

    Sulligent raced out to a 10-3 first quarter lead and extended that lead to 23-12 by halftime. Phil Campbell cut the Blue Devils’ lead to 30-23 at the end of the third quarter but couldn’t make the comeback.

    Hardy led Phil Campbell with 10 points, eight of which came in the second half.

    BOYS

    Sulligent 73, Phil Campbell 68

    Cam Habada hit five three-pointers and went 12-for-14 from the three-point line, scoring 32 points in a 73-68 loss to the Sulligent Blue Devils

    The game was tied 11-11 at the end of the first quarter. Sulligent held a 30-26 lead at halftime and extended that lead to 52-42 at the end of the third quarter.

    Quentin Hyde hit his second buzzer beater of the week for the Bobcats. This time Hyde’s shot tied the game at the end of regulation, sending the game to overtime. The Bobcats outscored the Blue Devils 22-11 in the fourth quarter comeback.

    Sulligent squashed Phil Campbell’s momentum in overtime, outscoring the Bobcats 10-5 to get the win.

    Kyle Pace followed Habada with 13 points. Hyde added nine points on three three-pointers. Gage Baker scored six points, Sage Raper five points and Blain Goodson three points.

    In total, Phil Campbell made 13 three-pointers.

    Phil Campbell 62, Hatton 60

    A two-point advantage at the end of the first quarter was all Phil Campbell needed to beat the Hatton Hornets 62-20.

    Phil Campbell led Hatton 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. After that, both teams scored the same number of points in each quarter the rest of the way. Both teams scored 16 points in the second quarter, 16 in the third quarter and 19 in the fourth quarter.

    Canaan Clay led the Bobcats with 16 points on four three pointers. Habada added 14 points, nine of which came in the third quarter. Goodson scored 11 points, making two threes in the first quarter and one in the fourth quarter. Pace scored all nine of his points in the second half.

    Red Bay 71, Phil Campbell 48

    Cody Carnes hit six three-pointers to lead the Red Bay Tigers to an easy 71-48 win over the Phil Campbell Bobcats.

    Red Bay held a slight 9-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The scoring ramped up considerably in the second quarter when the three’s started falling.

    Early in the second quarter the two teams got in a three-point shootout, dropping four straight threes – two from each team – giving Red Bay a 20-19 lead. The Tigers slowly began to pull away, leading 30-21 with 1:22 to go in the second quarter.

    Phil Campbell’s Goodson hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the Tigers’ lead to 31-24 at halftime.

    Red Bay pushed the lead to double digits on back-to-back layups by Landon and Lawson Glover to give the Tigers a 40-27 advantage with 5:12 to go in the third quarter. By the end of the quarter, Red Bay led 51-34.  Red Bay pushed the lead to 55-34 early in the fourth and cruised to the win.

    Carnes led Red Bay with 24 points. Landon Glover added 11 points, Carson Corum eight points, Holden Inmon six points, B.P. Blair six points, Lawson Glover four points, Andrew Ray five points, Owen Terry three points, Charlie Huffman two points and Gage Edgmon two points.

    Habada led Phil Campbell with 22 points.
