Belated Happy Mother’s Day to all

This past Sunday was Mother’s Day, so allow me to wish a belated, very Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers in our readership.

My Facebook feed was flooded this weekend with Mother’s Day-related posts, from children praising their moms to moms doting on the precious kiddos who brought motherhood into their lives. I loved seeing all the pictures and comments celebrating mothers and what they mean to us.

Among the posts were many mothers with whom I have interacted on the job – teachers, business professionals, youth sports mommas, community leaders and more. Although I might know them best in one capacity, it was so fun to see them in their element as mother.

My husband and I got to enjoy some special family time with both his mother and mine – time that I cherish even more, now, as both of my parents have lost their own mothers.

Saturday morning found us with my parents at a small church cemetery just south of Fayetteville, Tenn. We lost my Grandpa and Grand, my dad’s parents, this past fall, and the headstone had finally been set, so we went to see it and place flowers.

I know it had to have been hard on my daddy – his first Mother’s Day without his mom. It’s a pain I know so many have gone through, and I dread to think of the day.

For my husband’s family, we cooked a big Sunday lunch, and we delighted in gathering around the table together for a big meal and to make precious memories. His mother and grandmothers have always treated me just like one of their own, so I was pleased to be able to celebrate them and all they mean to our family.

Whether you got to celebrate with your mother, or the holiday sparked a wave of memories for the mother you have lost, I hope you took the chance this weekend to honor the mother or mother-figure in your life.
