RHS finishes tennis regular season with wins over Wilson, Deshler

The Russellville High School girls varsity tennis team is heading into the sectional tournament with strong momentum after finishing the regular season with wins over the Wilson Warriors and the Deshler Tigers.

Head coach Charlotte Dollar’s squad defeated Wilson by a 6-3 total at RHS.

In singles play, Russellville got wins by No. 1 Peyton Parrish (6-0, 6-1) over Isabel Mallette, No. 3 Sofia Tiffin (6-2, 6-0) over Reagan Dickerson, No. 4 Natalie Busler (6-0, 6-1) over Emma Darby and No. 5 Roxanna Velez (6-0, 6-1) over Brieann Lard.

No. 2 Chaney Peters of Wilson defeated Avary Miller, and No. 6 Livi Nester bested Addie Strickland of RHS, both in straight-sets.

In doubles, No. 1 Parrish/Tiffin (6-4, 6-3) defeated Mallette/Peters, and No. 2 Miller/Velez (6-2, 6-0) defeated Nester/Lard.

Wilson High School picked up a doubles win by Makayla Carter/Dickerson (6-4, 6-3) over Busler/Strickland.

RHS hosted the Deshler Tigers the following day to wrap up the regular season. Russellville got consistent play and the team win by a 7-2 total over their Tuscumbia opponent.

In singles action, Russellville got wins from Parrish (6-0, 6-0) over Abby Wright, Tiffin (6-1, 6-2) over Rosie Thompson, Busler (6-4, 6-0) over Anna Lee Hester and Velez (6-1, 6-2) over Kaylee Bennett.

Deshler took No. 2 singles Lauren Hand (6-1, 6-2) over Miller and No. 6 AK Johnson (6-2, 1-6, 10-5) over Strickland.

Russellville got doubles wins by No. 1 Parrish/Tiffin (6-1, 6-1) over Kelley/Johnson, No. 2 Miller/Velez (6-2, 7-6) over Thompson/Hester and No. 3 Busler/Strickland (6-3, 6-1) over Bennett/ Johnson.

Next up will be the girls’ and boys’ sectional tournament hosted by RHS with spots in the 4A-5A state tournament on the line.
