Bobcat baseball keeps winning run alive

The Phil Campbell Bobcats picked up wins over Hamiton, Deshler and Sumiton Christian this week to extend a win streak to seven games and improve to 14-1 on the season.

Phil Campbell beat the Hamilton Aggies 4-3 Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats got on the board early, scoring a run in the first inning on an Austen Baker single scoring Luke Barnwell. Hamilton tied the game in the top of the third inning 1-1, but the Bobcats reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning when Barnwell and Mason Swinney scored on an error to make the score 3-1.

The Aggies added a run in the top of the fifth to cut the Bobcats’ lead to 3-2.

Phil Campbell got an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning on a solo shot by Swinney to make the score 4-2.

Barnwell and Swinney each had two hits for the Bobcats.

Levi Crittenden got the win for Phil Campbell, pitching six innings and striking out five batters.

Phil Campbell 8, Deshler 7

The Bobcats gave up a 7-0 lead but held on to squeak out a win over the Deshler Tigers Friday night.

Phil Campbell led Deshler 7-0 after five full innings of play. Deshler exploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game.

The Bobcats got a big game from Baker, who had two doubles and four RBIs on the night.

Baker doubled in Sage Raper and Mason Swinney in the third inning to give the Bobcats a 2-0 lead. He also doubled in Luke Barnwell and Swinney in the fourth inning.

Bryant Anthony also had a two-run double in the fourth, scoring Bryant Hyde and Crittenden.

Phil Campell won the game on an error in the bottom of the seventh scoring Hunter Baker.

Phil Campbell 17, Sumiton Christian 0

The Bobcats pounded out 10 runs in the top of the first inning to pummel Sumiton Christian 17-0 March 16.

Ten Bobcats crossed the plate in the top of the first inning: Barnwell and Austen Baker scored twice, and Swinney, John Miller Lawson, Ridge Raper, Trey Leindecker, Hyde and Sage Raper all scored once for Phil Campbell.

After the 10-run first, Phil Campbell added a run in the second inning, four in the third and two in the fourth.

Barnwell led the Bobcats from the lead-off spot in the batting order with two hits, three RBIs and two runs. He was also the winning pitcher, going five innings and pitching a three-hit shutout.

Lawson had two hits, two runs and an RBI. Raper had a hit, two runs and two RBIs. Baker had a hit, two runs and an RBI.

Baker, Swinney, and Raper each had doubles, while Hyde sprinted out a triple.
