Vina softball gears up

Jonathan Jones and the Lady Red Devils are ready to put COVID-19 behind them, get on the field and play this season to the end.

“It is very exciting to finally get to softball season with the hope we have a chance to actually finish the season,” said Jones.

Vina will return some experience in the circle in sophomore Kaitlyn Athey and junior Hailey Cantrell. Athey will play middle infield when not pitching, and Cantrell will play centerfield.

Sophomore Kassidie Gessler has two years of experience playing third base and will be a solid hitter for the Red Devils.

Vina will have a couple of new additions to the lineup, too. Abbi Mitchell will catch, and Matti Kirk will bring experience as a utility infielder.

Vina only has one senior, so the future’s looking bright for Jones’ Red Devil squad.

Vina plays in an area with Belgreen, Hackleburg and Phillips.

“We are just hoping to compete and have a chance to get into regionals by season end,” said Jones.
