First Metro Bank hosts fundraiser for FAME Ranch

It is time for First Metro Bank’s second annual fundraiser for FAME Girls’ Ranch, and the bank is asking for cheerful hearts and a need to give. 

FAME Girls’ Ranch is a home for girls ages 6-18 that helps the Department of Human Resources and families in need of assistance. 

“The girls at Fame Ranch deserve to see that there are people that care and want to see them succeed,” said First Metro Bank CSR and lending assistant Kassidy McCorkle. “We admire the FAME Girls’ Ranch for their hard work and the passion they dedicate to ensure the girls receive an abundance of support, guidance and opportunity. Fundraising is a great way to show we support them and that their dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.” 

McCorkle said the fundraiser began when one of the bank representatives mentioned FAME Girls’ Ranch was in need of basic toiletries. 

The fundraiser was originally supposed to only involve First Metro employees, but as the word spread, community members expressed their desire to help. 

“As a community bank, we have always valued our neighbors and considered ourselves blessed to be able to serve them and serve alongside them,” McCorkle said. 

McCorkle said last year the bank was able to collect hundreds of items and gift cards. Because of last year’s success, this year the fundraiser is expanding from Russellville to also include the entire Shoals area. 

FAME Girls’ Ranch Director Misty Smith said it is always touching to see people willing to help. 

“Especially during a pandemic when a lot of people are probably struggling, it means a lot to know that they are thinking of us, too,” Smith said. “It means a lot to us to know people believe in us and what we are doing.” 

Smith said 13 girls live at FAME Girls’ Ranch, but the average is usually 16 and no more than 18. 

Smith said all donations are appreciated, and FAME Girls’ Ranch is always in need of basic everyday supplies and toiletries. 

“Shampoo, body wash, deodorant or really anything you can think of that is a basic everyday necessity,” Smith said. “It is small things, but it makes a big difference.” 

This year’s suggested donation list includes face wash, Dial body wash, conditioner, ethnic hair products, shaving cream, deodorant, mousse, hair spray and lotion. 

It also includes socks, felted hangers, overnight bags, art supplies and over-the-counter medications. 

Smith said there is also a large need for cleaning supplies, unscented laundry detergent, fabric softener sheets and dryer sheets. 

All donations can be dropped off at First Metro Bank locations in Russellville, Muscle Shoals, downtown Tuscumbia or downtown Florence until Feb. 26.
