Margaret Ann Hughes Holmes

Margaret Ann Hughes Holmes, 81, passed away March 30. She was born in Jasper.

She is preceded in death by her husband, William Gerald (Jerry) Holmes, and her parents, C.W. Hughes and Gladys Sherer Hughes.

She is survived by her sister, Wanda Williams of Raleigh, N.C.; daughter Laurie Holmes Goodwin (Randy) of Trussville; son Russ Holmes (Cathy) of Little Rock, Ark.; grandchildren Lindsey LeMaster Decker (Brian), Sarah Holmes and Tyler Holmes; one great-grandson, John Charles Decker; and other nieces and nephews.

She was the valedictorian graduate of Vina High School in 1956 and graduated from the University of North Alabama (Florence State Teacher’s College). She was an avid reader and worked for more than 45 years for the Birmingham Public Library System at the East Lake, Huffman, Springville Road and Trussville branches.

She loved her family and loved cooking for her children and grandchildren. She loved God, and she was a member of Deerfoot Baptist Church.

A short graveside service will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville April 2 at 10 a.m.
