Tharptown holds off Phil Campbell in softball action

Tharptown holds off Phil Campbell in softball action

The Tharptown Wildcats jumped out to an early lead and held off the Phil Campbell Bobcats to win 7-5 last week.

Right out of the gates, Tharptown pounded out four runs before the Bobcats came to bat. Brooke Daily doubled in Madison Vandiver and Taylor Cameron, while Kyndall Morgan and Daily came around to score later in the inning.

Phil Campbell got a run back in the top half of the inning on a Katie Thomas home run to centerfield.

Daily singled in another run for the Wildcats in the top of the third inning, scoring Morgan to give Tharptown a 5-1 lead.

Tharptown extended that lead to 6-1 in the top of the fifth inning when Morgan scored on an Abby Best single.

Phil Campbell stormed back in the bottom of the sixth inning. Caymen Quinn scored on a passed ball before Amber Ergle homered to centerfield, scoring herself and Kaci Harris. Caitlyn Mills singled in Emily Swinney to cut Tharptown’s lead to 6-5.

Tharptown added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Cameron scored.

Daily led Tharptown, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and scoring a run. Olivia Ergle and Best both had RBIs. Cameron scored three runs.

Ergle went five innings, striking out six and giving up nine hits and five runs. Cameron finished the game’s final two innings to strike out four.

For the Bobcats, Ergle and Thomas both homered. Ergle had two RBIs.

In other games, Tharptown lost to Elkmont 2-1. Cameron struck out seven and allowed only two hits in the loss.

Tharptown shut out Marion County 7-0. Daily homered, got two RBIs and scored two runs. Vandiver had two RBIs. Olivia Ergle got the win, striking out three and allowing three hits.

Tharptown lost to Tishomingo County, Mississippi, 5-3. Cameron struck out six and allowed no hits in the win.
