BHS girls claim runner-up finish at invitational

The Belgreen Bulldogs finished first in their pool in the Decatur Invitational but fell to West Morgan in tournament play.

Belgreen was shut out in the finals 7-0 by West Morgan but posted impressive wins on the way to the finals, beating Phil Campbell, Brewer and West Limestone.

Emma Dempsey threw a no-hitter to lead Belgreen past county rival Phil Campbell 7-0.  Belgreen put the game early in the second inning, scoring six runs. Gracie Dempsey, Katie Dempsey and Sydney Borden each had RBIs in the inning.

Borden went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored two runs to lead the Bulldogs.

Emma Dempsey allowed four hits in a 3-1 win over Brewer. She struck out three.

Bailey Wood went 2-for-2 with an RBI and scored a run. Borden and Katie Dempsey both doubled.

In the first game of the tournament, Belgreen beat West Limestone 8-3. Borden had a four-RBI game for the Bulldogs. Katie Dempsey also had two RBIs and scored two runs from the lead-off spot in the batting order.

Emma Dempsey got the win for the Bulldogs.
