RHS volleyball picks up win

The Russellville High School varsity volleyball team picked up an area win and celebrated Senior Night this week.

Hamilton hosted RHS, and the Lady Golden Tigers defeated the Aggies for their second Class 5A, Area 14 win of the season. Both area wins for Russellville have been against Hamilton, and this time, RHS swept the match by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-12.

Caroline Sparks had eight kills, three aces and five digs. Chalea Clemmons added six kills, one ace and five digs, while Alivia Clemmons had five kills, two blocks and six digs.

Lexie Glass picked up eight kills, four digs and a block. Callie Palmer had four kills and four blocks, and Briana Ramirez had 17 digs.

Leah Rushing had 12 assists, while Krista Sikes had 13 assists and seven digs. Sophie Moore rounded out the Russellville statistics with nine digs.

Russellville (4-22) hosted the Hatton Hornets Oct. 7 for Senior Night. Four senior Golden Tigers were honored in the last home match of the season for RHS: Alivia Clemmons, Lexie Glass, Briana Ramirez and Krista Sikes.

“They’re a pretty special group,” said Russellville head coach Whitney Glover. “They have worked really hard this year to lead this team … My seniors have stepped up and tried to do a good job, and they’re a super special group to me.”

The senior girls and their teammates gave it a good effort Oct. 7, but the team came up short in the match. Hatton took the close contest by scores of 27-25, 25-21 and 27-25.

“We just continue to make the same mistakes that we’ve got to quit making,” Glover said.

In previous action Oct. 3, Russellville also fell to Phillips, 3-1, in Bear Creek. It was the second win of the season for 1A Phillips over the Lady Golden Tigers.  PHS took the match by scores of 25-23, 25-17, 20-25 and 25-12.
