Belgreen girls win Silver Bracket at Shoals tourney

The Belgreen Bulldogs volleyball team won the Silver Bracket of the First Metro Bank Tournament at Muscle Shoals High School Saturday. The Bulldogs got wins over Decatur Heritage, Tharptown and Phillips to claim the championship.

The Lady Bulldogs lost their first match of the tournament to Mars Hill, 25-22 and 22-17.  Emma Dempsey had nine kills. Katie Dempsey had 16 digs. Autumn Bragwell had 11 successful serves and nine assists, and Bailey Wood had 15 digs.

The girls won their second match of the tournament against Decatur Heritage, 25-13 and 25-17. Bragwell had a big match with three aces, 21 successful serves and 10 assists.  Ansley Tate added nine kills, two assists and eight digs, while Emma Dempsey had four kills.

Belgreen lost the third match to Winston County, 25-7 and 25-15 – Katie Dempsey had four kills and eight digs – but won their fourth match against Tharptown, 25-9 and 25-18.  Bragwell had six aces and nine assists. Katie Dempsey added five aces; Emma Dempsey six kills; and Ansley Tate five kills and five assists.

The Bulldogs won their fifth and final match of the day over Phillips, 25-18 and 25-21.  Emma Dempsey led the Bulldogs with 10 successful serves, two aces and three kills.  Tate had five kills and four assists. Katie Dempsey added two kills; Sydney Borden had eight digs; and Bragwell tallied nine assists and an ace.
