Red Devils win area series over Belgreen boys

The Vina Red Devils won their area series against the Belgreen Bulldogs last week to earn a tie for second place in 1A, Area 13. The Red Devils won’t get a playoff appearance, however, since Hackleburg won the tiebreaker.

Vina shutout Belgreen 9-0 in the first game, won 9-7 in game two and lost 17-10 in game three of the series.

In game one, Chance Kennedy pitched a two-hit shutout and struck out eight batters to lead Vina past Belgreen 9-0. Vina scored multiple runs in every inning but the second and seventh.

Braden Moomaw went 3-for-5 and scored two runs. Isac Harper scored two runs. Jacob Lewis went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Belgreen committed 10 errors in the game.

In game two, both teams struggled in the field, with Vina committing nine errors and Belgreen committing six.

Vina led 4-2 after the first inning, 7-5 at the end of two innings and 9-5 at the end of the third inning and held off the Bulldogs, who scored a run each in the fourth and seventh innings.

Lewis went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and scored two runs, while Braden Moomaw went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Kennedy and Jacob Landers scored two runs each.

Carson Cox had two RBIs for Belgreen.

In game three, Vina led 10-7 after 6.5 innings of play before Belgreen exploded for 10 runs in the sixth to earn the win.

Belgreen outhit Vina 14 hits to four but committed 10 errors in the field.

Several Bulldogs had good games at the plate. Kostner Bryant had two hits, including two triples and three RBIs, and he scored three runs. Koby Collins had two hits, including a triple and two RBIs, and he scored two runs. Jacob Fleming had two hits, an RBI and a run. Carson Cox had two hits, an RBI and two runs. Canaan Stough had two hits, including a double and three RBIs, and scored two runs.

For Vina, Braden Moomaw had two RBIs and scored a run. Haze Weatherford had two RBIs. Isaac Shelton, Zach Davidson and Wyatt Kennedy scored two runs each.
