Fleming clinches Belgreen walk-off area win

Jacob Fleming came up big for the Belgreen Bulldogs in an 11-10 walk-off win over the Phillips Bears in an area contest Monday.

Fleming had two hits and two RBIs and scored two runs. Fleming’s biggest hit, however, came in the bottom of the seventh inning with the game tied 10-10. He roped an RBI-single into right field, bringing home the game-winning run in Kostner Bryant.

Belgreen was trailing 10-9 going into the seventh. Koby Collins got things going, hitting a double into left field, scoring Jackson Galliano to tie the game.

Phillips scored five runs in the top of the first inning to take a quick 5-0 lead. Belgreen had to scratch and claw back into the game, scoring two in the bottom of the first, one in the second and two in the fourth to cut the Bears’ advantage to 6-5.

Phillips seemed to put the game away in the top of the sixth when the Bears scored four runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead to 10-5; Belgreen, however, wasn’t done. The Bulldogs scored three more in the bottom of the sixth to cut Phillip’s lead to 10-8 and then the three runs in the bottom of the seventh to win the game.

Bryant and Colllins scored three runs each.

Luke Henson got the complete game win for Belgreen, going the full seven innings. He struck out nine batters and allowed nine hits and three earned runs.

Belgreen committed five errors, but the Bears doubled that with 10.
