Belgreen gets two late-inning wins over Bobcats

The Belgreen Bulldogs and Phil Campbell Bobcats combined for 29 hits in a slugfest last week. Phil Campbell outhit Belgreen 16 hits to 13 hits, but the Bulldogs came out on top 7-6 on two late scores.

With Phil Campbell leading 6-5 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Camie Terrell singled in Kaley Chandler to tie the game 6-6. Emma Dempsey then grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring Sydney Borden to take the lead 7-6.

The Bulldogs would hold onto the lead and get the win.

Dempsey led Belgreen at the plate, going 3-for-4, including two doubles, with three RBIs and one run.

Terrell had two RBIs for the Bulldogs. Borden scored two runs for Belgreen. Borden, Kaycee Wilson and Gracie Dempsey had two hits each.

Emma Dempsey pitched four innings, striking out six batters and giving up five runs. Borden closed the game’s final three innings, striking out five and allowing one run.

PC’s Cypress Quinn went 4-for-5, including two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. Katie Thomas went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Emma Ergle had three hits, including two doubles.

Belgreen 9, Phil Campbell 4

Belgreen broke a 5-5 deadlock in the top of fifth with big five-run inning to secure the Bulldogs’ second win of the week over the Phil Campbell Bobcats 9-4.

Katie Dempsey broke the deadlock with an RBI-single scoring Kaycee Wilson to give Belgreen a 5-4 lead. Emma Dempsey, Katie Dempsey, Gracie Dempsey and Sydney Borden would all come around to score in the top of the fifth inning to give Belgreen the 9-4 win.

Katie Dempsey went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Emma Dempsey went 3-for-3 and scored a run. Borden went 2-for-2, including a double and triple, with an RBI and two runs scored.

Emma Dempsey got the win, striking out five and allowing three earned runs.

Quinn had a double and scored two runs for Phil Campbell. Katie Thomas also doubled for the Bobcats.

Belgreen 6, Shoals Christian 1

The Belgreen bulldogs scored five runs in the second inning to secure a 6-1 win over the Shoals Christian Flame.

Sydney Borden, Kaycee Wilson and Katie Dempsey all drove in runs in the second inning.

Borden scored two runs, had one hit and scored a run. Katie Dempsey had two hits and two RBIs. Kaycee Wilson had two RBIs.

Emma Dempsey got the win for the Bulldogs, allowing only one run in three and two-thirds innings.

East Lawrence 8, Belgreen 0

The Bulldogs gave up eight runs in the first inning and never could get their bats going, as they fell to the East Lawrence Eagles 8-0.

Emma Dempsey went 2-for-3 from the plate to lead the Bulldogs but struggled from the circle, giving up eight earned runs.
