Hi folks,
The summer days are beginning to become a bit shorter, and in a few weeks we will begin to see a change in the weather conditions.
The summer of 2018 has been a good one, and many things have happened that we will always remember.
It’s so nice when people remind me that they read our stories each week. Last week was no exception. One reader told me she read our stories even before she read the obituaries. We both shared a laugh. The reader even made mention that she had a few stories from years gone by that she would share with me sometimes in the near future.
So much planning and work is going into the event coming up Aug. 17-18: the Watermelon Festival. Several folks have asked about our big Sidewalk Sale that will take place Aug. 16-17. Rest assured, this will be a big sale; not only furniture but a lot of my personal collection will be on display as well. Many items will be displayed, ready to be sold. I have enjoyed all of these for many years, but I have decided to part with a few of my favorites, so be sure and shop early while our selection will be fully displayed and ready for a new home.
I really hope the weather will be good, any maybe the rain will hold off. It’s always good to see new vendors each year and also the return of the old ones.
The first festival was held in the Old Moody Lot, a few blocks from our store. The A.W. Todd Center occupies the space today.
One of the early festivals was kicked off with a parade up Main Street, with “Frank and Jessie,” a trained team of oxen, owned by Mr. Norman Flower from Tennessee. This parade drew a lot of people.
A fiddle contest was held in the park, and a lot of the politicians were there handing out cards, soliciting votes from folks who were attending.
The activities have changed quite a bit from those early days, and I am sure it is for the better. There are many more attractions now, and many more folks attending. Let’s all plan on having a great time and make this year one of the best ever.
