Belgreen wins Franklin County softball tournament

By Bart Moss / For the FCT

The unpredictable Alabama spring weather and scheduling conflicts almost forced the cancellation of the Franklin County softball tournament. In the end, at the last possible moment, a winner was crowned – and it was the host team, the Belgreen Bulldogs.

Camie Terrell led the way for the Bulldogs in the championship game, smashing a double and home run, three RBIs and two runs.

Phil Campbell scored first, taking a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Terrell homered in the top of the second inning to cut Phil Campbell’s lead to 2-1.

Phil Campbell added two more runs in the bottom of the second inning before Belgreen claimed the championship with a big four-run third inning.

Emma Dempsey got the win for the Bulldogs.

In the preceding game, Phil Campbell defeated Tharptown 5-4 to advance to the championship game.
