Motes shuts out Yellow Jackets

Cole Motes pitched a two-hit shutout last week blanking the Winston County Yellow Jackets 10-0. Motes struck out 10 Winston County batters in the game.

The Bobcat bats were alive as well. Peyton Thomas hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning. The Bobcats also got doubles from Motes, Joe Hardy, Ridge Raper and Austen Baker.

Phil Campbell scored one run in the first inning, two in the third, six in the fourth and one in the sixth.

The Bobcats got three hits from Baker and two hits from Thomas, Chase Hutchens and Brody Nix.

Daniel Smith scored three runs, and Raper scored two runs.

Phil Campbell 6, Winston County 4

Trailing 4-3 in the top of the sixth inning, Austen Baker roped a two-RBI single to give the Phil Campbell Bobcats the lead and help his team to a 6-4 win over the Winston County Yellow Jackets.

Phil Campbell opened up a quick 1-0 when Nate Owens scored on a sacrifice fly in the first inning. Winston County responded with two runs in the second and two in the third to take a 4-1 lead.

Phil Campbell cut into the Yellow Jackets’ lead, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Hutchens singled home Hardy. Hutchens later scored on an error by the Winston County centerfielder to cut Winston County’s lead to 4-3.

Baker’s clutch hit came in the top of the sixth inning to give the Bobcats the 5-4 lead. Phil Campbell added an insurance run in the top of the sixth on another RBI-single by Baker.

Winfield 6, Phil Campbell 0

The Phil Campbell Bobcats committed five errors and could only squeeze out two hits in a 6-0 loss to Winfield last week.

Thomas and Hutchens were the only players to reach base for the Bobcats in the game, neither able to score.

The Bobcats struck out 11 times in the game.

Hackleburg 5, Phil Campbell 0

The Phil Campbell Bobcats were held to only three hits in a 5-0 loss to the Hackleburg Panthers last week.

Thomas, Hardy and Nix were the only Bobcats to reach base on hit.
