Varsity basketball tips off

This week, varsity basketball teams from around the county will tip off their 2017-18 season. There are even some big early season in-county rivalries to heat up the hardwoods.

Phil Campbell will host Tharptown Friday night, and Belgreen will host Red Bay – fans will agree, a great way to start the season.

Below is the full slate of varsity basketball games from now until Thanksgiving break next week:

  • Nov. 14

-Tharptown at Covenant Christian

-Phillips at Phil Campbell

  • Nov. 16

-Tharptown at Waterloo

-Red Bay at Haleyville

  • Nov. 17

-Tharptown at Phil Campbell

-Red Bay at Belgreen

  • Nov. 20

-Carbon Hill at Belgreen

-Vina at Cherokee

-Russellville at Colbert County

  • Nov. 21

-Vina at Phillips

-Belgreen at Tharptown

There are also several teams participating in early-season tournaments and Thanksgiving holiday tournaments.

Red Bay varsity girls will be participating in a tournament at Hartselle. Phil Campbell varsity boys will be in a tournament at Wallace State Community College, and the Phil Campbell varsity girls will be in a tournament at West Point High School. The Vina Red Devils will be hosting their own holiday tournament from Nov. 16-18.  Russellville varsity girls will be playing in a tournament at Hartselle Nov. 18.

Russellville High School will be hosting a varsity girls Thanksgiving tournament, Nov. 18-21.

Early season basketball schedules change frequently because schools are still playing in the football playoffs.  Always check with the individuals schools to verify dates and times.
