Two years ago, they were state champs. Last year, it was a Red Map. For the third straight year, the Russellville boys golf team will make an appearance at state and try for the coveted Blue Map.

The Russellville High School boys golf team advances to state in Class 5A with a team score of 315 in the substate competition Monday. Jaceton Murray was low medalist for the team with a 75. Eric Boutwell shot 79, Brayden Bendall shot 80, Bailey Motes shot 81 and Carson Reeves 92.

Russellville will play at Auburn Monday and Tuesday for state championship game.

The RHS girls golf team made section champs before falling just short at substate.

In girls golf, Russellville’s season ends at substate, where the girls game in fourth behind Alexandria with a team score of 277. The top two teams, which will advance to state, were Arab with a team score of 258 and White Plains, 261.

Coach Deedra Moore said the substate results were of course frustrating, “but I couldn’t be prouder of my team. They’ve had a great season,” Moore said. “Arab peaked at just the right time. We just had a rough day and left a lot of shots on the course.

“We still have next year with our entire team coming back, so that’s very encouraging.”

The Russellville girls individual totals were Ashton Moore 88, Josie Willis 94, Morgan Moon 95 and Bailey Tubb 104. Carley Grace McCalpin, who qualified for substate as an individual, shot 104.

The substate loss follows a threepeat as section champs for the girls team, which shot 262 to advance to substate at Scottsboro. Ashton Moore and Morgan Moon made the All Section Tournament team.
