RCS recognizes TIP students
The Russellville City Schools Board of Education makes it a point to recognize a person or program at every monthly school board meeting. Last week, athletics and academics both got the nod from Superintendent Heath Grimes and the board.
Seven RCS students were recognized for their achievements. Six of those were for being honored through the.
“The students qualify for the Duke Talent Identification Program by scoring in the 95th percentile or above on the state standardized text (ACT Aspire),” explained instructional coach Molly Bates, who coordinates TIP involvement for RCS students. Students selected to the Duke TIP program are invited to take the ACT – the college readiness assessment for high school achievement and college admissions in the United States – as seventh graders. “These students scored a 22 or above on at least one section of the ACT test.” Brayden Bolton, Madeline Cooper, Kiah Derrick, Madelynn Green, Pedro Lopez-Andres and Grace McDermitt were each honored for their achievement. “Their academic excellence is amazing, and we’re very proud of them,” Bates said.
Also in recognitions, RCS basketball Coach Patrick Odom took the opportunity to recognize and commend the Golden Tiger basketball program and in particular star player Bailey Motes, who racked up honors and titles in the recent season.
The board also approved:
- contract with Kellie Singleton for public relation services
- policy manual revised by the Alabama Association of School Boards
- accepted a bid for band uniforms from DeMoulin Brothers & Company in the amount of $60,948.70.
- a reimbursement resolution, which will allow the system to to return money that is being used for construction at RMS to the General Fund, if the need should arise – “in case of financial hardships we didn’t anticipate,” Grimes said. In such a case, construction could be funded through bond issue instead.
The next regular meeting will be May 25 at 3:30 p.m., and work session will be May 22 at 3:30 p.m.
