Nettie Armstrong
Nettie Armstrong, 95, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, surrounded by her loving family, March 5. She was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Red Bay and moved to Zion, Ill., in 1950. She was a longtime member of Zion Revival Center of Zion, where she also taught Sunday School.
Nettie retired in 1984 after 32 years at Abbott. She enjoyed traveling with the Zion Senior Citizens under Chuck Paxton’s leadership. Nettie also enjoyed sewing and gardening and was an excellent cook.
Services were March 10 at 11:30 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay. Burial was in Halltown Cemetery, Vina.
Survivors include two sons, James Armstrong and wife Caroline of Winthrop Harbor, Ill., and Larry Armstrong and wife Robin of Tuscumbia; five grandchildren, the Rev. Brad Williams and wife Barb, Lisa Shaw and husband Steve, Jim Armstrong and wife Christina, Jacob Armstrong and wife Catherine and Carrie Baez and husband Brandon; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one brother, James Strickland and wife Bonnie, Red Bay; one sister, Hettie Lee Pendegraph, Red Bay; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Armstrong in 1982; her parents, Bose and Molsey Strickland; and nine brothers and sisters.
Visitation was March 10 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay.
