Red Bay public library receives grant

The Northwest Regional Library System in Winfield receives grants for member libraries from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to Support Summer Literacy.

Weatherford Public Library, Red Bay, was among libraries to receive $2,000 each to support their 2016 summer reading programs.

This local grant award is part of over $7.1 million in grants awarded to more than 900 schools, nonprofits and organizations across the 43 states Dollar General operates in.

Regina Sperry, director of NWRL, thanked everyone who donates to the literacy foundation during their shopping trip at their local Dollar General. “Every dime helps, and our libraries benefit greatly from a large grant to help with program expenses. I encourage citizens to donate their change or more every time they shop at Dollar General,” Sperry said. “Please stop by your local library for more information on the summer reading program. All programs are free and so much fun!”

“Consistent with our mission of Serving Others, we are excited to provide these organizations with funding to further literacy and education across the communities we call home,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s CEO. “It is always so exciting to see the true and meaningful impact the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has on both children and adults looking to improve their lives through literacy.”

Weatherford Public Library is located at 307 4th Avenue South, Red Bay. For more information on programs and resources, call 256-356-9255.
