The Russellville High School boys tennis team played in the state competition April 25. The boys, as expected, stood out at state as an elite team. Doubles pair Jake Williams and Levi Hargett came in first place at state competition.

The first set of the championship, Hargett and Williams were losing 1-6, but they came back in the second set 7-5. In the third set tiebreaker, Williams and Hargett overcame the competition 10-8, securing the win and beating the eight-time champion, Umswright.

“The hardest part of the match was overcoming the deficit of losing the first set,” said Williams.

Williams and Hargett have been playing on the team throughout their high school career and have proven to be powerful players.

“They practiced hard, and they played hard; it was definitely an intense game. They earned it,” said Coach Josh Dobbins.

The team also had a few semifinalists, as well as a runner-up. The spectacular state finish marks the end of the season for RHS.
