Odell Carpenter

Visitation for Odell Carpenter, 87, of Decatur, who passed away March 13, will be from 6-8 p.m. March 17 at Roselawn Funeral Home. The funeral will be held March 18 at 11 am at the funeral home with Brother Joe Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in Spruce Pine Cemetery at 2 p.m.

He was born Jan. 13, 1929, in Spruce Pine to Walter Carpenter and Flora Streetman Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter was preceded in death by three sisters, Inez McCullar and husband RJ, Fay Burfield and husband Coy and Syble Hill and husband Vernon, and son, Jerry Dale Carpenter.

He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Mager and husband Tom; his brother, Thomas Carpenter; grandchildren, Daniel Mager and wife April and Jessica Toney and husband Ben; great-grandchildren, Emma Toney, Willa Toney, Lola Toney, Anna Mager, Grace Mager and Thomas Mager; and many nieces and nephews.

He proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and earned his electrical degree from Calhoun Community College. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
