Area basketball continues

There is a lot of rapid and consequential basketball being played right now with area tournament in full swing – most of which will completed before the next print publication of the “Franklin County Times.” Here is an update on where things stand as of today:

Tharptown’s boys will host Mars Hill tonight at 7 p.m. for the 2A, Area 16 title. Both teams will advance to the subregion next week. Tonight’s winner will host the subregion game. The runner-up will travel to the subregion game. Tharptown will face either Tanner or Cold Springs in the subregion Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Phil Campbell’s boys will host Sulligent tonight at 7 p.m. for the 2A, Area 15 title. Both teams will advance to the subregion next week. Tonight’s winner will host the subregion game. The runner-up will travel to the subregion game. Phil Campbell will face either Altamont or Tarrant in the subregion on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Russellville’s boys will travel to West Point tonight at 7 p.m. to play for the 5A, Area 14 title. Both teams will advance to the subregion next week. Tonight’s winner will host the subregion game. The runner-up will travel to the subregion game. Russellville will face either J.O. Johnson or Randolph in the subregion on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Belgreen’s girls will play Hackleburg tonight at 6 p.m. at Hackleburg for the 1A, Area 15 title. Both teams will advance to the subregion next week. Tonight’s winner will host the subregion game. The runner-up will travel to the subregion game. Belgreen will play either Brilliant or Meek in the subregion Monday at 7 p.m.

Red Bay’s girls defeated Phil Campbell in the 2A, Area 15 finals Thursday night, 43-34. Red Bay will host Southeastern in their subregion game Monday night at 7 p.m. Phil Campbell will travel to The Altamont School in Birmingham Monday at 7 p.m. to play in their subregion game. The winners of these games will advance to the Northwest Regionals at Wallace State Community College next week.

Belgreen and Vina’s boys teams were eliminated from area play, and their season’s have come to an end.

Tharptown, Russellville and Vina’s girls teams were eliminated from area play, bringing their seasons to an end as well.
