Melinda Ann Thornton, 44, Russellville, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014 at her residence.

Melinda graduated from Russellville High School in 1989 and earned a BA Degree in Criminal Justice from University of Alabama in 1996.  She was employed by Three Springs in Jackson County, and Jessup, Ga. and with the Department of Human Resources for the State of Georgia.  She was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and friend.  She dedicated her life to helping troubled children and made such an impact on many lives.  She was a huge Alabama fan and enjoyed going to the football games.
The visitation will be 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 15, 2014 at Spry Memorial Chapel.  The funeral will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014 at Spry Memorial Chapel.  Speaking at the service will be Bro. Gerald Ricketts, April Merkley-Yarbrough, and Lorraine Perez.  Larry Collins will provide special music.

She is survived by her son, Andrew Thornton; mother, Callie Zills Thornton; brothers, John Thornton and Teresa Lesley, James Thornton and wife, Paula, David Thornton and wife, Sheila; two nieces, five nephews; three great-nephews, four great-nieces; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lealon C. Thornton; brother, George Thornton; and sister, Sandra McClain

The pallbearers will be Donald Clement, Doug Clement, Robert Thornton, David Smith, Hugh Don Garrett, and Tim Vickery.
