Robert Leland “Pops” Ray, 68, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 at his residence.

He was born April 27, 1945 in Illinois. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army for 21 years and served in Vietnam. He attended Altar Baptist Church.

Services were held on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. Paul Reynolds officiating. Burial was in Altar Baptist Church Cemetery, in Golden, Miss.

Survivors are his wife, Imogene Ray, of Red Bay; seven children, Marribell Brunn and husband, Barry, of El Paso, Texas, Robert L. Ray, Jr. and wife, Rebecca of Red Bay, Hershell Dale Ray of Tishomingo, Miss., Jeff Stanphill and wife, Delores, of Arkansas, Scott Stanphill and wife, Shirley, and Marshall Simmons, all of Golden, Miss., and Debbie Glass, of Tremont, Miss.; one brother, Thomas E. Ray and wife, Barbara, of Champaign, Ill.; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Ray and Esther McKinney Ray, two brothers, Donald D. Ray and Hershell Dale Ray and a grandson, Robert L. Ray III.

Pallbearers were Scott Stanphill, Marshall Simmons, Jeff Stanphill, Cole Glass, Justin Stanphill and Ronnie Payne.

Visitation was on Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at Deaton Funeral Home in Red Bay.
