Yves Morissette, age 75, passed away in his home Dec. 10, 2013, after an extended illness.

He was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Hull in the Province of Quebec, Canada. Yves was the son of Amaury and Cecile Morissette. He was born French Canadian.

He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Montreal, Canada, in 1963. There he completed his residency and internship and specialized in otolaryngology. Yves practiced in Toronto for 10 years. He settled in Russellville in 1983 and practiced medicine until June 2013.

Yves was accomplished in many areas. He was Chief of Staff at Russellville Hospital for eight years. He was a member of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama where he also served as counselor. He was a member of the Southern Medical Association and the Franklin County Medical Society. He loved his practice as well as his patients.

His hobbies included biking, in which he finished a 100-mile race, and running, in which he finished a 55-mile race. He won awards and participated in many marathons and 10 triathlons during his 50s and 60s. He was a horseback rider and won endurance champion of the Mississippi National Distance Association. He enjoyed sailing and loved sailboat racing. Yves became a ballroom dancer and favored the dances Bolero and Mambo. He won many 1st place awards in the bronze category. He also enjoyed pistol shooting. He played the flute. He sang soprano in the Opera “Carmen” at age 12. He was the Provincial Swimming Champion of backstroke at 12 years old. He enjoyed water and snow skiing, winning water skiing awards. He was an avid book reader.  e loved God, family and friends.  He was very polite and trusting and will be missed by his families and friends.

Yves was preceded in death by his parents, Amaury and Cecile Morissette; one brother, Guy; one sister, Gisele Gascon; and a son, Kevin.

He is survived by his wife, Kay; one son, Olivier and wife, Claudie of Saint Therese, Canada; one daughter, Jamie, of Sheffield; three step-children, April Greenway and husband, Mark, Lindsey Foy and David Foy. He has two grandsons in Canada, Youri and Zachary Morissette, and four granddaughters of Sheffield.

The family extends a special thank you to those participating in his care during his illness. Thanks to the friends that called and helped during our time of need. Thank you to Dr. Miranda Decker and staff, Russellville; to the Russellville hospital employees; UAB Cardiology ICU staff; Dr. Kelly Godby of UAB; the hospitalists of Cullman Regional Hospital; Dr. Heslin, surgeon at UAB; Dr. Kalliath and staff, Florence; Gentiva Home Health, Russellville; Hospice of North Alabama, Russellville; and Russellville City Pharmacy.

A memorial was held at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville, on Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2013.
