    Carl Spencer Gaston

    Carl Spencer Gaston

    December 3, 2013

Carl Spencer Gaston, age 79, Russellville, a minister of the Gospel, pastor and evangelist as well as a loving father, grandfather and husband, went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 3, 2013.

In his career as a minister, he served as pastor of Oak Grove, Bethlehem, Wolf Springs, James Chapel and Popular Creek Missionary Baptist Churches.  During his life he served as the visiting evangelist numerous times at revivals throughout Northwest Alabama.  He was a native of Mount Hope and graduated from Mount Hope High School where he was a star basketball player.

The visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville.  Funeral service was Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at the funeral home chapel with Kenneth Bond and Dan Hindman officiating.  Burial followed in Knights of Pythias Cemetery.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pat Seay Gaston, her son Shane Seay and wife, April, of Athens, his sons, Sam Gaston and wife, Debby, of Birmingham, and Wade Gaston and wife, Barbara, of Tuscumbia; six grandchildren, Bethany Sheffield and husband, Brad, of Birmingham, Hayden Gaston of Atlanta, Daniel Gaston and wife, Mallory, of Brewton, Jonathan Gaston of Seattle, Marianne Gaston of Tuscumbia and Danielle Carter of Tuscumbia; one great-grandchild, Avery Sheffield of Birmingham; a brother, Cecil Gaston of Decatur; a sister, Imogene Montgomery of Moulton; sister-in-law, Betty Robison and a brother-in-law, Rogers Hester.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 45 years, Ruth Gaston, his parents, W.W. and Etta Gaston; two sisters, Easter Fayrene Gaston and Willie Dean White and a brother, Tommie.

Brother Carl loved The Lord and was never ashamed to tell others about Christ.  His personal life and daily walk with God were an example and inspiration to many including his family.

The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to the many people who assisted him during his ministry.  Special appreciation is also given to the physicians and nursing staff of Huntsville Hospital for their care of our loved one during the last month of his life.
