Belgreen ninth grade girls extend winning streak to 12-0

On Nov. 19, the Lady Bulldogs ninth grade team defeated Haleyville 43-24. Kaley Vandiver hit three three-pointers in the first quarter as Belgreen jumped out to a 16-5 lead. Shellie Barber would score five of her seven points in the second quarter and Johnna Oliver chipped in two of her 10 points in the third as the Lady Bulldogs would extend its lead to 30-15 at the end of three quarters. Nicole Borden would score six of her eight points in the final frame.

On Thursday, the Belgreen ninth graders would defeat the Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats by a score of 45-30. Phil Campbell would actually carry a 19-18 lead in at halftime, but in the third, Ana Castillo scored four of her six points, Nicole Borden and Shellie Barber chipped in two each of their eight and five total points to lead Belgreen to a 33-25 lead into the final frame. In the fourth, Johnna Oliver and Kaley Vandiver scored six each of their 10 and 12 total points as the Lady Bulldogs would cruise to victory.

On Friday night, the ninth grade Lady Bulldogs defeated the Vina Lady Red Devils by a score of 44-10. In the first quarter, Nicole Borden would score four of her eight points and Johnna Oliver would chip in three of her seven as Belgreen took a 13-5 lead. In the second, Ana Castillo and Kaley Vandiver would score four each of their eight and four total points as Belgreen led 27-7 at half. Cortny Williams, Callie Barber and Peyton Bingham would put in two each in the third. Seventh graders Kaycee Wilson, Camie Terrell, and Mallori Miller would all score in the fourth for Belgreen. Emma Humphres would finish with seven points for Vina.

On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Red Bay Lady Tigers by a score of 33-19. In the first, Nicole Borden scored four of her 13 points as Belgreen would take a 10-3 lead. In the second quarter, Ana Castillo would pick up four of her six points as the Lady Bulldogs extended the lead to 18-8. In the second half, Kaley Vandiver and Peyton Bingham would chip in three each to put Belgreen ahead 25-11 after three quarters. Brook Shewbart and Jordan McKinney scored four and three of their seven and four total points in the second half for the Lady Tigers in the losing effort.

The Lady Bulldogs ninth grade team will play again on Thursday, Dec. 5 at Double Springs.
