James R. “Jim” Horton, 73, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at Helen Keller Hospital.

He was born in Alabama to Roy and Lucille Gober Horton. He owned and operated Horton’s BBQ, Horton’s Clothing Store and the Gulf Station for many years. He attended Community Center Baptist Church.

Services were Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013,  at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, with Bro. Donald Raper and Bro. Rick Murrell officiating. Burial was in Burnout Cemetery.

Survivors include three children, Gina Raper and husband, Donald, of Madison, Tony Horton and wife, Lynette,  and Tammy Duncan and husband, Byron, all of Red Bay; two step children, Kristie Rhodes and husband, Dennis, of Purvis, Miss., and Kelly Stewart and husband, Brandon, of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren, Joseph Raper, Taira Dotson and husband, Robert, Allyssa Horton, Anthony Horton, Mariah Horton, Tyler Duncan and Tiffany Thorne and husband, Heath; four great grandchildren, Kieli and Autumn Dotson, Jeremiah and Joshua Thorne; one step great grandchild, Gabriella Montoya; two brothers, Roy M. Horton and Bob Horton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Durell Horton.

Pallbearers were Joseph Raper, Anthony Horton, Tyler Duncan, Heath Thorne, Robert Dotson and Brad Ivy.
