Volunteers sought for fishing program

By Dennis Sherer

Boat owners and other volunteers are needed for the annual Tim Horton’s Fishing for Kids program on Saturday, Oct. 12.
The boaters will take special needs children and adults fishing on Pickwick Lake. This year’s fishing rodeo will be staged out of Riverfront Park in Sheffield.
Some of the anglers use wheelchairs. Owners of pontoon boats, bass boats and other boats that can be used for fishing are needed.
Helpers are needed for the boats and onshore.
The anglers will fish 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Live bait can be used and will be provided.
Volunteers are needed from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided for anglers and volunteers.
Horton, a professional angler and outdoors television personality from Muscle Shoals, said it’s difficult to tell who has the most fun at the fishing rodeos; the special anglers or the volunteers.
“We all have a blast,” Horton said. “I travel all of the country competing in bass tournaments and taping TV shows and get to fish in some of the best lakes and rivers in America. But I always look forward to Fishing for Kids as much as anything I do.”
