The Red Bay Tiger scored early and scored often in route to a 56-0 pounding of the Phil Campbell Bobcats Friday night.

The Tigers piled up almost 300 yards of total offense in the first half alone. Most of the yardage came on a relentless ground game. Red Bay rushed for 222 yards on just ten carries in the first half.

The Tigers were led by Matt Senkbeil’s six carry, 109 yard performance. Austin Childers carried the ball six times for 67 yards. Nick Thorn added a lone 37-yard run to go with two catches for 53 yards and three touchdowns.

The Tigers first score of the night was on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Troy Borden to Thorn just two and half minutes into the game. Senkbeil added the two-point conversion run to give Red Bay an 8-0 lead.

Red Bay scored again with 4:38 to go in the first quarter on a 24-yard run by Borden. Childers added the two-point conversion run to give the Tigers a 16-0 first quarter lead.

On the first play of the second quarter Borden connected with Thorn again for the first of four Red Bay second quarter touchdowns. This was a 28-yard strike. Childers added another two-point conversion run to make the score 24-0.

Midway through the second quarter Childers scored on a 14-yard touchdown run. Senkbeil’s two-point conversion run was successful giving the Tigers a 32-0 lead.

With 4:38 to go in the first half Senkbeil sprinted untouched for a 67-yard touchdown run.  Childers added yet another two-point conversion run to extend Red Bay’s lead to 40-0.

Nick Thorn returned a Bobcat punt late in the first half 45 yards to paydirt for another Tiger touchdown. Childers added his fourth and final two-point conversion run of the night to give the Tigers a seemingly insurmountable 48-0 halftime lead.

Red Bay added one final touchdown midway through the third quarter when freshman Tate Ozbirn returned a blocked punt 13 yards to the end zone for the final score of the night.

Red Bay improves to 2-2 on the year and 2-1 in the region. Phil Campbell falls to 0-4 on the year and 0-3 in the region.

Both teams step out of region play next week. Red Bay will host Wilson, while Phil Campbell travels to Phillips.
