Lois Jean Bates Aderholt, 83, of Russellville, formerly of Haleyville entered into rest on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Aderholt was a member of Heritage Missionary Baptist Church of Haleyville. Lois was a Sunday School Teacher in her younger years at First Baptist Church of Haleyville. She was a honor student at Haleyville High School where she graduated and received a scholarship to The Art Institute of New York City and received numerous art awards throughout her education.

Lois owned numerous businesses throughout her adult life. She once painted a portrait of “George Jones and Tammy Wynette” that hung at the Red Barn. Mrs. Aderholt’s last job was the activities director for NACOLG/Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Home in Florence. After retirement, she volunteered at Phil Campbell High School and local nursing homes. During her ownership of businesses, Lois was a Notary Public and a member of the Chamber of Commerce. She received a Foster Grandparent award, also awards for Clogging and Buck Dancing. She loved to sew and her passion was art. She was an accomplished artist and seamstress.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2013, from 2-4 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where services will be held at 4 p.m. Burial will follow in Littleville Cemetery in Haleyville. Brother Billy Quinn will officiate.

Mrs. Aderholt is survived by her sons, Steve Aderholt and wife, Jennifer, Ray Aderholt and wife, Margaret; daughters, Cathy Raper, Brenda Tyra and husband, Ronnie; brothers, Houston “Buddy” Bates, Pete Bates and wife, Joy; sisters, Inez Barr, Billie Jo Beard and Patricia Bates (John) Byars. She was “Granny” to 13 grandchildren, Charles Aderholt, Jimmy Thompson, Stefanie Aderholt Wood, Barbara Thompson Todd, April Aderholt Hendrix, Jason Aderholt, Christopher Tyra, Noah Tyra, Johnathan Tyra, Jennifer Tyra Odom, AJ Walker, Kimberli Walker, CJ Walker and 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon “Sam” Aderholt; parents, Houston and Delphia Bates; brother, Jerry Bates; sister, Ginger Bates Willis; grandparents, Frank and Alabama Bates and a special aunt, Lesley Bates.

The family would like to thank everyone that provided the wonderful care they gave to our mother and grandmother. They would like to give special thanks to Gentiva Hospice and Home Health. She had great care from Monica, Rosha and Kim. Thanks to Kim for her compassion at the final stages.  Thanks to all the residents, employees and staff at Southwood Gardens and to Mrs. Shirley Fuller for helping in every way. Also, we all want to thank Jenny, such a special granddaughter that took great care of Granny.
