Woman charged in baseball bat assault

A Russellville woman was arrested Monday night after allegedly hitting another woman with an aluminum bat during a physical altercation.
Janice Louise Trapp, 57, 16125 U.S. 43, Russellville, was charged with second-degree assault, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.
According to Hargett, the arrest was the result of an altercation that took place at a residence in the 600 block of Monroe Street at 10 p.m. Monday.
Hargett said Trapp and the 54-year-old victim apparently got into a verbal altercation at the residence.
During the verbal argument, Trapp allegedly picked up an aluminum bat and used it to hit the woman several times.
Hargett said the victim sustained bruises and lacerations to her head as well as a broken finger.
The victim was treated at Russellville Hospital and later released.
Hargett said medical officials notified authorities about the incident and officers were dispatched to the hospital to take statements. Trapp was arrested following questioning.
Trapp has been released from custody on bond.
