Man accused of offering child money for sex

A Russellville man was arrested on Tuesday after officers say he offered an 11-year-old girl $20 in exchange for sex earlier last month.
Johnson Myit, 25, 100 Holiday Plaza Apartments, Unit 105-H, was arrested for enticing a child for immoral purposes, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.
According to Hargett, the incident allegedly occurred on April 6 when the 11-year-old female victim and her brother were playing outside of the apartment complex where they lived.
Hargett said Myit reportedly approached the girl and showed her the money and gave her details about what she had to do in order to receive the money.
“After she was approached, the girl and her brother immediately ran into their residence and told their parents what had happened,” investigator Lt. Scotty Lowery said.
“Thankfully the children weren’t physically harmed during the incident.”
Lowery said the incident was investigated by police and when authorities at the Franklin County District Attorney’s Office felt there was sufficient evidence, warrants were issued and Myit was taken into custody.
Myit is currently in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
If convicted of the charge, which is a Class C felony, Myit could face 1-10 years in prison.
