BELGREEN — The Red Bay Lady Tigers continued their winning streak against county opponents with a 61-34 win over area rival Phil Campbell Thursday night at the Franklin County tournament.

The Lady Tigers got out to a 23-7 lead by the end of the first quarter, and the rest of the match up would contain more of the same.

“We don’t change anything between games,” Red Bay head coach Donnie Roberts said.

“We play man to man defense and we press. We had the same game plan going into tonight. I think the biggest thing that helps us win is our press. We’ve been working on it, and hopefully it will be effective in the playoffs.

The score was 38-16 when the two teams left the court for halftime, and by the end of the third quarter the Lady Tigers were up 50-24.

The Lady Bobcats were never able to cut into the point deficit, and Red Bay came out with the round two tourney win.

Allie Kennedy led Red Bay and the game in scoring with 19 points. Lexy Lindsey had 25 and Kasey Sparks added 10.

Also scoring for the Lady Tigers were: Alaina Hester (8), Morgan Pierce (4), Darby Madden (2), Jade Faulkner (2) and Elizabeth Wooten (1).

Phil Campbell 44, Belgreen 34

Phil Campbell ended the 2013 Franklin County tournament run for the Belgreen Lady Bulldogs in the first round Tuesday night.

The two teams went back and forth throughout the contest, but the Lady Bulldogs managed only a single one-point lead in the game.

Phil Campbell had an eight-point advantage during intermission that the team was able to hang on to in the 10-point win over their county rival.

“[Belgreen] plays really hard,” Phil Campbell head coach Darit Riddle said.

“We have to learn how to play the whole game. They always shoot well, and we didn’t play on defense well tonight.”

“We couldn’t get a shot to fall tonight; we missed too many,” Belgreen head coach Richie Hester said.

“That Foreigner song ‘Cold as Ice,’ that was us tonight. We’re not done yet, though, We still have some time left in the season to improve.”
