Man charged with failing to register

A Russellville man was arrested on Thursday after authorities said he was living in the area without registering as a sex offender.
Osebio James Cabrera, 27, 135 Icy Rd., Russellville, was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.
According to records, Cabrera was arrested in April 2006 in Lauderdale County for sexually abusing a 16-year-old girl.
Reports further state Cabrera was convicted in June 2007 of first-degree sexual abuse, which requires that he register as a sex offender in whatever area he chooses to live in.
Hargett said Cabrera was registered as a sex offender in Lauderdale County until he gave notice he would be moving to Autauga County, but according to their sheriff’s office, Cabrera had been in noncompliance with their sex offender requirements since March 2011.
Hargett said it was not known how long Cabrera had been living in the area without registering as a sex offender.
Cabrera is currently still in custody at the Russellville City Jail.
