Police: man charged with shooting after dispute
A Russellville man was arrested late Wednesday evening after shooting another man following an altercation.
Charles Lynch Hamilton, 52, 100 Lynch Lane, Russellville, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, Police Chief Chris Hargett said.
According to Hargett, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Stuck Street in Russellville after they received calls that someone had been shot.
When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered 49-year-old Joseph Nelson had been shot once in the chest area with a .38 pistol, which officers recovered at the scene, Hargett said.
According to witness statements, the shooting appeared to be the result of a physical altercation between the two men earlier in the evening.
After the first altercation, witnesses stated Hamilton allegedly came back to the residence on Stuck Street and shot Nelson once before fleeing the scene.
Hargett said officers located Hamilton a short time later and took him into custody.
Nelson was airlifted to Huntsville Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released on Thursday.
Hamilton is in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
