PCHS band to perform Saturday in Florence
The Phil Campbell High School Bobcat Band has received a helping hand from many different individuals and organizations since the April 27 tornado destroyed their band room and practically everything inside.
As a way of saying “thank you” to those local, state and national groups who have made rebuilding their band program a little easier, the Phil Campbell High School Bobcat Band, under the guidance of band director Bobby Patrick, will perform their first sit-down concert since the devastation of April 27.
The concert will take place on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Sears Court in Regency Square Mall in Florence.
Organizers of the event also said the concert would serve as a way to thank the countless number of people across the area who voted for the Phil Campbell band programs to win money through the Glee “Give a Note” Contest.
The dedication of so many people in the local community and throughout the Northwest Alabama area helped the Phil Campbell High School band program win one of the $50,000 grand prizes in December.
The Phil Campbell Elementary School band program also won $25,000 for placing first in their region so a total of $75,000 was won for the schools’ band programs.
Besides being a way to publically thank the many contributors and supporters who have given time or money to rebuild the band program, this will also be an opportunity for the community to see the new instruments purchased with the help of a generous Warner Music donation arranged through Save the Children, an independent organization dedicated to helping children and families learn to help themselves through lasting changes of those in need.
Jessica Burton, deputy director of Save the Children’s U.S. programs in Alabama, will also formally present a check to Phil Campbell for $12,000 of relief funds to assist Phil Campbell High School and Elementary School, including $2,000 for the replacement of the band’s destroyed uniforms and shoes.
Everyone in the community is invited to take part in the special event.
