Lady Bulldogs fall to Lady Indians in opener

BELGREEN — The Belgreen Lady Bulldogs kicked off their 2012 softball season by hosting the Colbert County Lady Indians Thursday evening at Belgreen.
The game was called after four innings with the Lady Indians picking up a 17-0 win officially. Unofficially the score was 18-0, as the Lady Indians actually picked up one more run than what made it to the scoreboard.
“They’re good,” Belgreen head coach Ritchie Hester said. “They’ve got everybody back from last year. I wanted our girls to see them and see where they need to be at.”
Colbert County, a 3A school, had a good team last season, and that success seems to have spilled over into this season.
The Lady Indians had a 5-0 lead after the top of the first. That lead was extended to 9-0 after the second and 14-0 after the third. Belgreen was unable to get anything going at the plate, stifling any attempt at a comeback.
Colbert County put the final four runs on the board in the fourth, and the game was called after the Lady Bulldogs’ next at-bat.
“One good thing you can take out of this is our pitcher [Laken Bragwell-Beasley] pitched a good game,” Hester said.
