Belgreen takes down Colbert Heights

J.R. Tidwell/FCT Jake Tittle (30) of Belgreen shoots a layup against Colbert Heights Friday night in Belgreen. Tittle was one of several players honored on senior night.

The Belgreen Bulldogs had to battle in yet another game, but once again they pulled out the win in the long run, this time at 45-36 over the Colbert Heights Wildcats.

The Bulldogs have played a string of games that saw them play from behind at some point, but in each of these Belgreen has pulled out the win.

“[The season] gets tougher as it goes,” Belgreen head coach Greg Watson said. “We’re a good team, but we’re not as good as people say.”

Colbert Heights took the lead early on and managed to keep it through the end of the first at 8-6.

This lead apexed for the Wildcats at 12-6 with 5:45 left in the second, but Colbert Heights went cold for the rest of the quarter.

A Belgreen field goal and a 3-pointer by Tyler Medina got the Bulldogs within one point of the lead at 12-11 3:40 to go in the second.

Chaney Simmons gave Belgreen its first lead of the game on a lay-up, but the Wildcats quickly went back ahead.

Belgreen would eventually take a 21-17 advantage into intermission.

Colbert Heights went ahead again for the majority of the third quarter, but Belgreen had tied the game once again at 30-30 at the end of three.

Layups by Brock Hester, Simmons and Chase Landers helped but the Bulldogs back on top at 40-34 with 3:20 remaining in the game.

Shots by Jake Tittle, Landers and Medina kept Belgreen ahead, giving them the nine-point victory.

“It’s good for us to win close games, because every game from here on out will be tough,” Watson said.”

Tittle led the Bulldogs with 12 points. Simmons had 11, Medina added nine, Hester contributed 8 and Landers totaled 5.
