Couple arrested on meth charges

Two people were arrested this weekend after authorities discovered they were allegedly purchasing chemicals with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine.
Joshua Max Scott, 30, 2384 Franklin 75, Phil Campbell, was arrested on charges of first-degree attempted manufacture of a controlled substance, second-degree attempted manufacture of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine and resisting arrest.
Courtney Lashay Jeffreys, 27, with a listed address of America’s Best Value Inn & Suites, Room 248, Russellville, was charged with first-degree attempted manufacture of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine.
According to Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver, an investigation was started Saturday about 8 p.m. when officers received information that there were individuals who were buying chemicals at different stores in the area.
After they developed Scott and Jeffreys as suspects, Oliver said officers executed a routine traffic stop on Scott who allegedly attempted to flee from the scene when he was questioned about buying chemicals.
After Scott was re-captured, Oliver said officers found chemicals in his vehicle that are used to manufacture meth.
“The chemicals were linked to a motel in Russellville where Jeffreys was staying,” Inv. Greg Pinkard said. “After gaining consent to search, we found mixed chemicals and a small amount of meth.”
Both were arrested and taken into custody.
Scott and Jeffreys are currently being held in the Franklin County Jail on bonds of $7,500 and $4,500 respectively.
