Red Bay Classic day two coverage

J.R. Tidwell/FCT Autumn Thomas (22) puts up a shot against Marion County.

PCHS girls edge out Marion Co.

The Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats started off day two of the Red Bay Classic by defeating the Marion County Lady Red Raiders 52-46 in a game that stayed close throughout.
Phil Campbell maintained the lead during most of the match, but Marion County consistently kept the score within 6 or 7 points.
“We lost track of the shooter, and we couldn’t afford to lose sight of her,” Phil Campbell head coach Darit Riddle said.
“We were lazy on defense, but they don’t have many good shooters.”
Hope Cook and Sarah Hilliard led the Lady Bobcats in scoring with 11 points each.
Autumn Thomas and Ciara Harville came in with 9 each. Also scoring for the Lady Bobcats were Madison Hardy (6), Whitley Yocom (4) and Korina Jimenez (2).

Tharptown boys fall to Colbert Heights

The Tharptown Wildcats fell to the Colbert Heights Wildcats for the second time in three days by a final of 60-45 on Saturday.
The game was tight in the first half, with the two teams swapping the lead a few times.
The score would have been tied at 24-24 going into intermission, but Kent Allen hit two of three free throws off a technical called on Colbert Heights as time expired.
Allen also had six 3-pointers in the match.
Tharptown had the lead late in the third quarter, but Colbert Heights went on a run late to pick up the win.
“We didn’t have Nick Long for part of the game and we’ve got to have him,” Tharptown head coach Jonathan Odom said.
“We didn’t play well with him out.”
Allen had 22 points for Tharptown, Riley Nolen had 15, Long had 6 and Hayden Fleming had 2.

    Belgreen boys rout Marion County

The Belgreen Bulldogs easily defeated the Marion County Red Raiders 68-48.
The game was close all the way to halftime, where a 3-pointer by Belgreen kept the score from being tied as time expired.
“I thought we played well,” Belgreen head coach Greg Watson said. “We played hard, and they’re tough to guard. You just have to remember that you’re never as good or as bad as you think.”
The Bulldogs started raining shots in the second half, pulling away from the Red Raiders in the fourth quarter for the 20-point win.
Chaney Simmons scored 23 points for Belgreen, including 15 from behind the arc. Josh Devaney totaled 20 points, with 9 of his coming from behind the 3-point line.
Jake Tittle scored 13, Brock Hester had 5, Dustin Smith had 4, and Tyler Medina had 3.

Red Bay girls blow out Flame

The Red Bay Lady Tigers cruised to an 83-45 victory against the Shoals Christian Lady Flame on Saturday.
The score was 20-4 by the end of the first eight minutes.
The Lady Tigers almost could have defeated the Lady Flame with their halftime score of 43.
“We have good depth.” Red Bay head coach Donnie Roberts said.
“I’m proud that our bench got so much playing time, and they played pretty doggone good.”
Red Bay outscored Shoals Christian 40-24 in the second half, giving them a 38-point victory.
Hannah Sharp led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 18.
Lauren Pacetti had 14 and Monique Delaney picked up 12.
Also scoring for Red Bay were Lexy Lindsey (7), Carlee Berry (6), Kasey Sparks (5), Jade Faulkner (4), Brooke Gresham (3), Alaina Hester (3) and Mariah Horton (2).

    Tharptown girls lose close game

The Tharptown Lady Wildcats lost to the Marion County Lady Red Raiders 44-36 in an afternoon match on Saturday.
Tharptown appeared to be out of the match early, losing 7-1 at the end of the first quarter.
The Lady Wildcats battled back, coming within 5 points of the lead at 32-27 by the end of the third. Marion County managed to keep a 4-point lead throughout much of the fourth quarter, edging out Tharptown with a late surge.
“Our intensity wasn’t great,” Tharptown head coach Chad Green said. “Some of our players need to step up for us. That helps you for later tournaments.”
Braeden Sellers led the Lady Wildcats with 11 points, with Chloe Lane picking up 9. Also scoring for Tharptown were Erika Sparks (6), Kamri Sears (6), Danielle Creasy (3) and Erica Valdez (1).

Colbert Heights downs Red Bay boys

The Red Bay Tigers fell just short to the Colbert Heights Wildcats 43-42 when two shots would not fall with under one minute remaining.
The two teams were within points of each other throughout the game. Red Bay had the advantage at 15-12 by the end of the first quarter, but Colbert Heights battled back to claim a 29-23 lead at halftime.
The Wildcats maintained this lead through most of the second half, but the Tigers were a point down at 41-40 with two minutes to go in the fourth. Both teams got one final basket, giving Colbert Heights the 1-point win.
“We just couldn’t get shots to fall,” Red Bay head coach Greg Cash said.
Michael Ramirez led the Tigers with 11 points, Cole Rooker scored 8 and Austin Humphres had 6. Also scoring for Red Bay were Tra Elliott (4), Hunter Childers (4), Matt Montgomery (3), Ben Hubbard (2), Austin Sparks (2) and Brett McDowell (2).
