Burcham named November’s Senior Citizen of the Month

Pauline "Paulie" Burcham was named the Senior of the Month for November.

Franklin County native Pauline “Paulie” Burcham was recently named the Russellville Senior Center’s Senior of the Month for November.
Burcham grew up in the Newburg community where she helped her family tend to their farm.
Burcham said she could recall picking cotton and working hard even when she was a child.
“Things were very different back then,” she said. We didn’t have the kind of conveniences we have today.
“I can remember hating the farm because the work was so hard, but now I just love the country.”
Burcham went to school at Newburg, Waco and Phil Campbell before she got married at the age of 16 to her husband of 59 years, Frank.
Burcham said she and her husband dabbled in antiques and had a shop at one time that they kept stocked with items they found at flea markets.
Burcham is an avid animal lover and has had many dogs over the years that she has loved just like family.
She also has a love for gardening and said she loves to grow Irish and day lilies and African violets.
“I just love getting in the dirt and watching those flowers grow,” she said.
Burcham’s love for flowers is something she shared with longtime friend, Mary Horton, who was also named Senior of the Month in August.
“Mary has been my friend for many years and we enjoy spending time together working with our flowers,” she said.
Burcham said besides gardening, spending time with her dogs and attending North Russellville Baptist Church, she enjoys coming to the Senior Center to see all of her friends there.
“I love the company of everyone here and I’m glad we have a place that people our age can come to,” she said. “It gives us something to do.”
