TS Lee dumps 7 inches of rain

Tropical Storm Lee caused several problems for Franklin County residents over the holiday weekend with steady rain and wind gusts sweeping through the area.

Franklin County Emergency Management Agency Director Roy Gober said the EMA office in Belgreen recorded almost seven inches of rainfall during the two-day period.

“We had some minor flooding in low-lying areas and places where we normally see rainfall accumulations, but we thankfully didn’t have any major flooding because the rain was stretched out for a long period of time,” Gober said. “If all that rain had come within about 12 hours, we could’ve been in trouble.”

Gober said the rain-saturated ground coupled with the wind gusts caused several trees to fall in different spots throughout the county, but he said road crews had the downed trees out of the roadways by Tuesday morning.
