With the season winding to a close the Alabama Sports Writers Association issued its final basketball poll earlier this week and a pair of local teams were ranked.

The Belgreen boys finish the season ranked No. 7 in class 5A. The Bulldogs have a record of 20-3 and are hosting the Class 1A, Area 13 Tournament after winning a coin toss against Tharptown.

Belgreen’s three losses were by a combined total of 13 points and came against Haleyvile (53-50), Class 3A No. 6 Carbon Hill (56-50 in the finals of the Lions Club Tournament) and to Tharptown (60-56 in overtime).

The other ranked team is Red Bay, which ends the season at No. 7 in the Class 2A girls poll. Red Bay is hosting the Class 2A, Area 12 Tournament.

The Lady Tigers finished the regular season with a 21-4 record. Their four losses came against Winfield (50-47), Belmont (68-50), Class 3A, No. 2 Clements (47-24) and Class 3A, No. 4 Lauderdale County (62-55). The losses to Clements and Lauderdale County were in the Northwest Alabama Girls Christmas Tournament.
