Holiday tournaments feature local teams

Even though schools are out for the holiday’s local basketball teams do not have a break as they are playing in several holiday tournaments.

All area teams, with the exception of the Vina varsity boys and varsity girls, will be playing in holiday tournaments next week.

The tournaments will the most local teams are the Hatton Tournament and the Northwest Alabama Girls Christmas Tournament.

The Hatton Tournament will feature three local varsity boys teams — Phil Campbell, Red Bay and Tharptown. That tournament begins Monday at Hatton High School.

The Northwest Alabama Girls Christmas Tournament will feature four local varsity girls teams and will begin Monday at Lauderdale County High School.

Tharptown plays Lexington at 3 p.m. in the old gym followed by Phil Campbell taking on Cold Springs at 4:30 p.m. Also at 4:30 p.m. will be Red Bay playing Colbert County in the new gym. Belgreen will play Rogers at 7:30 p.m. in the old gym.

The Belgreen varsity boys will play in the Fayette Lions Club Tournament. The Bulldogs will play Berry at 6 p.m. Monday at Bevill State Community College.

The Russellville varsity boys will play in the Huntsville Times Classic against Bob Jones at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Huntsville High School.

The Russellville varsity girls will play in the River City Classic in Decatur beginning Monday.
